15-16u Girls Extended Setter/Libero
What to Expect
This session focuses on developing setters and liberos as key decision-makers and vocal leaders on the court, ensuring they can execute precise ball control, direct team movement, and make quick, strategic adjustments. Setters will refine footwork efficiency, release mechanics, and neutral contact point to ensure consistency across different tempos. Training will emphasize jump setting, quick transitions from defense to offense, and adjusting set placement based on pass location and hitter tendencies while reinforcing their role as offensive coordinators. Liberos will focus on platform discipline, first-contact precision, and defensive range, ensuring they can command the backcourt and facilitate smooth offensive flow. Training will reinforce reading attackers, directing teammates in serve receive, and anticipating shots to improve defensive positioning. Both setters and liberos will develop high-speed reaction skills, leadership in organizing team movement, and maintaining composure in pressure situations. The first half of the session will be dedicated to position-specific skill development, ensuring each athlete builds strong mechanics in tempo control, defensive reads, and passing efficiency while reinforcing their role in guiding team execution. Training will progress from early-season fundamental refinement to mid-season adjustments to faster play and out-of-system scenarios, culminating in late-season execution under match-like conditions. In the second half of the session, all position groups will combine for semi-controlled drills and structured 6v6 gameplay, where setters and liberos will be challenged to run the offense, control defensive spacing, and communicate effectively under live game conditions. These scrimmages will reinforce leadership under pressure, execution in game-speed transitions, and decision-making in fast-paced situations, allowing athletes to apply their refined skills in a competitive setting. Expect high-rep passing and setting drills, fast-paced transition sequences, and full-speed gameplay, ensuring setters and liberos leave with stronger leadership presence, improved execution under pressure, and the ability to elevate team performance in all phases of play. This session will have 4 athletes with 2 coaches for the technical half before transitioning to the competitive component together with other positions.
